If there’s one modern-day mythical creature that I’ve been trying to chase down, it’s the elusive work-life balance. As a new mom, entrepreneur, and all-around juggler of life’s many hats, finding this balance sometimes feels like trying to find a unicorn on a skateboard. But it’s not all fantasy – there are strategies that actually work. Here’s how I’ve been navigating this wild ride and how I plan to weave these practices into the heart of Sensual I.
Before my son’s arrival, my life was a blend of late-night creative bursts and spontaneous social outings. Once I entered the magical yet exhausting world of motherhood, I wondered how I’d manage to hold onto myself while being the best mom I could be. Would I have to sacrifice my passion projects and personal time? Spoiler alert: I didn’t. It just took a bit of juggling – okay, a lot of juggling.
Balancing personal and professional life isn’t about giving equal time to everything. It’s about finding a rhythm that keeps us grounded, fulfilled, and yes, even sane. When we achieve this harmony, we’re more productive, happier, and better equipped to handle life’s curveballs.
Here’s how I’ve tried to master the art of balancing being a mom, entrepreneur, and, well, me:
• Time-Blocking for Sanity
I live and breathe by my planner now. Time-blocking has become my best friend. By allocating specific times for work, personal projects, and family, I keep the chaos manageable.
There was a time I tried to answer emails while making dinner and playing peek-a-boo. Chaos ensued. Now, I block times for everything – even if it means scheduling “me-time.”
• Setting Boundaries Without Guilt
Setting clear boundaries between work and personal time. When I’m with my son, I’m with him – not checking emails or thinking about project deadlines.
One evening, I found myself sneaking a glance at my phone while playing Lego with my son. He caught me and said, “Mommy, watch!” I realized then and there that work could wait, but these moments couldn’t.
• Embracing Imperfection
Letting go of the need for everything to be perfect. Some days, things won’t go as planned, and that’s okay.
•Prioritizing Self-Care
Making self-care non-negotiable. Even if it’s just a hot cup of tea after everyone else is asleep, it counts.
Still far away from the optimal work life balance, but I’m firmly on the way getting there, one day at a time. The practices I mentioned above are my building blocks that help me find a semblance of balance, and they also inspire the framework of Sensual I. I envision Sensual I not just as a place for personal growth but as a supportive community to help us all find and maintain this elusive harmony.
It’s not about achieving perfection, but about finding a rhythm that works for you. Through Sensual I, I hope to create a space where we can share our strategies, support each other, and maintain the balance that lets us thrive both personally and professionally.
